Synopsis

I tossed the firewood with a flick. A crackling sound accompanied the scattering embers.

Warmth began to seep into my chilled body.

The water in the pot on the campfire was quietly boiling.

As my senses slowly came alive, the eerie aura of the deep night forest seemed to fade away.

"What's there to live for? You live because you're alive."

Once I said it out loud, everything was fine.

What was I so serious about?

I wouldn't have gotten this far if I'd been ready to quit because of winning or losing.

Not everything is over. You don't have to be depressed.

I kept telling myself that, but...

It wasn't easy to shake off the feeling of defeat.

In times like this, the answer was to eat.

I threw all the ingredients I had into the pot and waited for them to cook.

The fat from the meat began to soak into the vegetables, giving them a deep, rich flavor.

When the broth had reduced enough, I seasoned it with some precious salt from the Empty Sea.

The finished dish was pretty spectacular. The next time I see Marlene, I should give her the recipe.

Feeling satisfied, I lay down and looked up to see the stars in the sky.

I had traveled to many worlds following the stars.

I'd met many people who helped me, sometimes in return for my help.

At first, we were at odds with each other, but eventually, we faced danger together.

No matter what the problem, we overcame it and moved forward.

And all of it, it was fun.

Yes, traveling was about pushing yourself beyond your limits. It didn't matter if you won or lost.

I asked myself.

Am I enjoying the journey, the adventure?

No need to think about it. The answer was clear.

I got up and started to clean up.

It was time to get back on my feet and start a new journey.

New worlds, people, and very, very good food awaited.
