Director's Note - December 2024

Writer

Dec 27, 2024 (UTC)

Greetings, Adventurers!

This is Jong Min Park, the Head Director of DFO.

I hope everyone has been well! It has been awhile since I was able to greet our Adventurers through these notes. Although today's notes won't be as long as usual since their goal is to fill you in on information that is not directly related to any immediate or recent updates, I'm glad for this opportunity as I haven't had the chance to address you directly during the latter half of this year.

How is everyone spending their end-of-year holidays? I’m sure it was a busy year for everyone, and I hope our Adventurers are currently spending time during the holidays with loved ones and enjoying some respite from the burdens of daily life, even if just for a little while.

Looking back, this year has flown by so quickly. 2024 has been a truly meaningful year for us thanks to all our Adventurers. Of course, I understand that some aspects of DFO that were presented this year might not have fully met your expectations. Nonetheless, we want you to know that we remain committed to delivering a better experience with each passing year, and that commitment extends to 2025 as well.

So now, as we get ready to greet the new year, let's take a look at some news about the past and present of DFO!

Notes for 2024

Before we dive into plans for 2025, I'd like to first talk about some topics that are about this year.

Party-Play Desync Issues

To start off, I'd like to address the desync issue currently being observed in Forest of Awakening and other endgame content. To add a bit of background info on this issue, we want to let our Adventurers know that this is a result of party members being physically far apart from each other due to DFO being a global service.

First and foremost, I sincerely apologize for the ongoing desync problems. This issue has been recognized within our team, and as mentioned during a previous DFO ExStream, investigations into it are still underway. However, we have found that identifying the root of this problem requires not only data on when and where the desync occurs - such as specific phases or patterns - but also details about individual players' gameplay conditions.

As such, if Adventurers could include footage recorded with the “//monitor” command activated when reporting such issues, it would greatly aid our investigation. We deeply appreciate the reports we've received so far, which have been invaluable, and we kindly ask for your continued assistance.

Simply type "//monitor" in the chat to activate the monitoring function.

Once again, we apologize for the inconvenience caused by this issue. We promise to share updates on any progress as soon as possible and wanted to let you know that we also greatly appreciate your patience regarding this inconvenience.

DFO 2024 Recap

On a happier note, the next thing I wish to talk about regarding 2024 are the memories we have made together.

This year has been filled with countless memories, and I thought it would be meaningful to revisit some of these moments in DFO together.

Let me introduce a quick recap of DFO’s 2024 in a format that may be familiar to you!

It’s been quite a year for us, hasn’t it? Just as it has probably been a bustling 2024 for everyone, I, too, have had quite a busy year working on something that I believe is of great interest to our Adventurers.

So why don’t we conclude our reflections of 2024 and move on to what many of you have been looking forward to: news about the next season and our plans for 2025!

Notes for 2025

Before we get into the details of 2025, I’d like to address an important point about the upcoming season.

As you may know, the update for the upcoming new season is a significant one, and I am aware that it has drawn a lot of attention from our DFO Adventurers already. Consequently, I thought it would be prudent to inform you beforehand that the new season’s English name, which was previously shared in various DFO streams, will be changed for the global release.

The content that is called “Joong-Cheon” in the Korean server will be renamed as "Sunken Depths" for DFO. The new title was chosen to better capture the essence of the area’s concept as being "heavy and oppressive waters." As such, we hope for the understanding of any Adventurers that might have grown accustomed to Sunken Depths’ previous name.

Also, there’s another reason for this change. It was brought to our attention that the previous name overlapped with content from a… certain company. I’m sure many of you can guess what I’m referring to, so I’ll leave it at that!

Now with that aside, lets talk about some topics related to Sunken Depths!

Sunken Depths "Information Database"

First off, have you enjoyed the highlights from this year’s DNF Festival?

Unlike previous years, we worked hard to deliver details about the upcoming season as quickly as possible through our simultaneous DFO ExStream. While I’m not sure whether we met the expectations you had for this stream, I hope you understand that it was held out of our desire to provide the latest news as soon as possible to our DFO Adventurers.

Missed the 2024 DNF Festival Live Stream? Check out the video above!

That being said, I understand many Adventurers would be curious about what happened during the second day of the festival, as only the first day was presented through the stream. While it’d be difficult to share every detail about Day 2, we’d like to present content that was shown at the festival’s “Information Database.”

This database offered insight on the new season’s characters, monsters, and regions. In order to provide similar information to our DFO Adventurers, we’ve created some videos based on what was presented through it.

So without further ado, let’s dive into the next chapter of DFO! Here are the “Information Database” videos that will give you a sneak-peek into the world of "Sunken Depths – The Fount of Abyssal Waters.”

Remember, this is just a sneak-peek!

We hope these videos shed some light on the upcoming lore of Sunken Depths. Of course, we’re preparing more new dungeons, equipment, and farming systems than what was shone in the Database videos, so be sure to stay tuned for updates as we share more details in the future!

2025 H1 Roadmap

Now that we’ve covered Sunken Depths, let’s move on - after all, 2025 won’t be just about Sunken Depths, right?

To give you a broader picture of what’s to come, we’ve prepared a simple roadmap for the first half of 2025. Let’s take a look at the major updates planned for next year.

As you can see from the roadmap, the new Sunken Depths season is scheduled to be updated in DFO this March. While we’re not ready to announce its exact date yet, we’re doing everything we can to ensure that you’ll be able to dive into the Sunken Depths as soon as possible.

Before that, in January, we’ll be releasing God of Mist Raid Hard Mode and the Female Fighter Renewal. Along with this new content, we’ll be adding new events to challenge Adventurers who are ready to take on the juiced-up God of Mist content as well as events to help you quickly progress your newly revamped Female Fighters.

In April and June, the Venus Legion dungeon and the Artificial God, Nabel Raid will be released respectively. We’ll provide more details about these additions after the Sunken Depths update in March, so stay tuned for further announcements.

While today’s roadmap only covers the first half of 2025, we’ll make sure to share more information about future content as soon as we’re able. Until then, we look forward to seeing everyone enjoying the first half of next year’s updates!

10th Anniversary Theme

Oh, and one more thing - 2025 marks our 10th anniversary! While I’d love to share more about our plans for this milestone, the development team has only allowed me to leave you with this small hint about its theme for now:

A forest and... what's that?

Can you guess what it might be? If you’re curious as to what it’s about, make sure to pay a visit to Arad during the Sunken Depths update and the 10th anniversary celebrations next year!

Last but not Least...

That wraps up everything we’ve prepared for today’s notes.

Before I go, I’ve written a short, handwritten letter for our Adventurers to show my heartfelt gratitude to you all.

Adventurers,

On behalf of the DFO team, I want to sincerely thank you once again for the tremendous support and enthusiasm you’ve shown us throughout this year.

As always, it has truly been an honor to share this journey with you, and it has made us even more passionate to create even more amazing moments together not just with the upcoming new season or 2025, but for the years to come. We promise to continue working hard to present an awesome game for our Adventurers to enjoy in 2025 and beyond.

I wish you and your loved ones a Happy New Year and only good fortune for 2025!

With sincere appreciation,

Jong

Once again, we'd like to thank everyone for all your support and a fantastic 2024!

Sincerely,

DFO Head Director Jong

P.S. What are those cards, you ask? Well... All I can say is make sure to try and collect them next year!
